About Dr. John Haeger
Dr. Haeger served as president of Northern Arizona University for nearly 14 years. He took over in late 2001 in the middle of a scandal involving a previous administration, with falling enrollment, a campus in disarray due to budget cuts and lack of infrastructure investments. By the time he left the presidency, the university had grown 40% in enrollment, had constructured nearly a billion dollars of new and renovated buildings, began new programs in the health professions, expanded the use of technology in the teaching environment, built branch campuses, and established a global presence both on and off campus.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Haeger has held nearly every position within the university from Chair of the History Department at Central Michigan University to Dean of the Graduate School, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Provost at Towson University, and President of Northern Arizona University. Along the way he wrote two books on the role of entrepreneurs in American economic development and just completed teaching a hybrid course on American Higher Education: Governance, Finance, and Leadership.
Dr. Haeger earned his Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago in American History.
